Macnica Announces Launch of EasyMVC Machine Vision Camera Development Kit

Enable the immediate development of MV cameras with leading-edge CMOS image sensors, FPGAs, and Vision interfaces.

YOKOHAMA, Japan–(BUSINESS WIRE)– (November 1, 2018) – Macnica, Inc. (Headquarter: 1-6-3 Shin-Yokohama, Kohoku-ku, Yokohama, Japan President: Kiyoshi Nakashima) today announced the launch of “EasyMVC”, a Machine Vision Camera Development Kit that will enable users to quickly evaluate leading-edge CMOS image sensors and develop the most advanced vision interfaces.

The kit consists of three boards:  an image sensor board, an FPGA board, and an interface board. The image sensor board can be equipped with various Sony CMOS sensors, the FPGA board with various Intel® FPGAs, the interface board with USB3 Vision®, CoaXPress®1.1.1 and 2.0, GigE Vision® or 10GigE Vision firmware and connectors.

Simply by switching these boards in and out of a prototype design, users can evaluate camera components that affect the performance of machine vision systems, without any troublesome set-up work. In addition, since Macnica provides sample hardware and software designs, the kit greatly speeds development while dramatically reducing costs.

Macnica also provides intellectual property (IP) cores for Intel FPGAs, including “SLVS-EC” (the first in the world co-developed with Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation), and cores for GigE Vision, USB3 Vision, and CoaXPress, all key components required for building a new machine vision camera.

EasyMVC can be a great deal of help in evaluating these IP cores for possible use in camera development.

Because Sony builds such leading-edge CMOS image sensors, users must overcome a number of difficult technical issues to build a camera. (These may include programming the FPGA to extract image data efficiently, and, even before starting sensor evaluation, designing the prototype’s sensor board to accommodate the different pin arrangement used by each sensor.) Yet with the EasyMVC, all those issues can be avoided, so that users can start development work immediately.
